Cosmic Drifter
Cosmic Drifter – Browser-Playable Sci-Fi JRPG MVP
Cosmic Drifter is a browser-playable sci-fi JRPG prototype about corporate espionage, alien mysteries, tactical choices, and survival on the edge of known space.
This is an MVP / proof-of-concept, not a finished commercial release. The goal right now is simple: see whether players are interested enough to try it, explore the opening scenario, and tell me whether this deserves further development.
What You Can Do In This MVP
In the current version, you can:
- Play directly in your browser
- Explore the opening scenario
- Buy and sell gear
- Customize your character
- Generate Traveller-inspired character details
- Fight through turn-based combat encounters
- Make early choices that hint at the larger story
- Test the basic tone, pacing, and structure of the game
The prototype is intentionally small. It is here to answer one question:
Is this the kind of sci-fi RPG experience you would want to see expanded?
What Kind of Game Is This?
Cosmic Drifter is inspired by old-school JRPGs, classic science-fiction roleplaying, spacefaring adventure, and the kind of campaign where the crew is always one bad decision away from trouble.
Expect:
- Tactical, turn-based encounters
- Sci-fi exploration
- Corporate pressure
- Dangerous jobs
- Uncertain loyalties
- Player choices with consequences
- A practical, lived-in spacefaring tone
This is not trying to be a giant polished commercial game yet. It is a playable design test for a larger idea.
Feedback Wanted
Feedback matters more than payments, ratings, or downloads right now.
After playing, I would especially like to know:
- Did the opening goal make sense?
- Was the interface clear enough?
- Did combat feel understandable?
- Did the sci-fi tone work for you?
- Did you want to keep playing after the first quest?
- What confused you first?
- What would make you more interested in a larger version?

Learn More About the Project
I wrote more about the design goals behind Cosmic Drifter here:
Read the Cosmic Drifter design article
That article explains more about the Traveller-inspired roots of the project, the design direction, and why I wanted to test this as a playable prototype.
Current Development Status
Cosmic Drifter is currently in early MVP form. Some systems are functional, some are placeholders, and some ideas are only lightly represented.
That is intentional.
This version exists to test interest, gather feedback, and decide whether the project should move forward into a larger, more polished version.
Want to Help?
The most useful thing you can do right now is:
- Play the browser version.
- Fill out the short feedback form.
- Leave a comment with your reaction.
- Tell me whether you would want to see more.
If you enjoyed the prototype, you can also follow the project on itch.io so you will be notified if future updates are released.
If you want to support CyborgPrime’s broader work, you can do that here:
For Cosmic Drifter specifically, the most helpful support right now is simple: play the MVP and tell me what worked.
Thanks for trying Cosmic Drifter and helping shape what it might become.
